Louisville government has agreed to pay $118,000 to settle a lawsuit against former police officer Bryan Wilson, who exploited his job to breach a teacher's data and privacy.
Wilson is facing a 30-month prison sentence in Ohio. The lawsuit was filed by a woman who accuses Wilson of stealing private photos, sexual harassment and other charges. Wilson is also involved in other cases, including the “Slushygate” scandal, in which LMPD officers in unmarked police cars targeted pedestrians with drinks while videotaping their exploits.

Bryan Wilson, 37, pleaded guilty to federal charges of violating the civil rights of pedestrians on the Louisville Metro and online surveillance that took place last year. The sentence he received was 10 times longer than that of the other LMPD officer involved in Slushygate alone. The plaintiff’s attorney, Sara Kollins, expressed her satisfaction with the agreement, emphasizing that the agreement is not just about money, but also about justice for the victims. The case was dismissed last month, avoiding a “painful trial.” Wilson illegally accessed a Snapchat and threatened women by posting intimate photos.
Bryan Wilson called a woman abusive and threatening comments and sent her sexual material to a friend. The woman was so emotionally exhausted that she contemplated suicide. She tried to contact LMPD’s sex crimes unit multiple times but received no response. The lawsuit alleges that LMPD maintains a disturbing internal culture of sexual abuse. LMPD declined to comment on the case, saying it has a process for suspending access to data after a member leaves the agency.
