Apple announced that it will be shutting down its My Photo Stream service on July 26th and is encouraging you to switch to iCloud Photos. If you continue to use My Photo Stream, files will remain available in the cloud for 30 days from July 26th.
My Photo Stream was the precursor to iCloud Photos. It was free, but it only covered up to 1,000 photos and video clips. The service kept those files in sync across every Apple device and on the web.
Apple hasn't explained why it decided to end the service, but there were some issues, such as the inability to store photos in full resolution. Additionally, iCloud Photos is the newest and most comprehensive option for backing up photos and videos.

"Moving forward, iCloud Photos is the best way to keep the photos and videos you take up to date across all devices and store them securely in iCloud," Apple said in an email sent to users who still use My Photo Stream.
Although the photos and videos will remain on your physical devices, they will be deleted from the cloud after 30 days from July 26 (i.e., on August 25) and synchronization will stop. It will not be possible to upload new files from July 26.
“The photos in My Photo Stream are already stored on at least one of your devices, so as long as you have the device with your originals, you won't lose any photos as part of this process.”

Cloud storage
To protect your memories in case something happens to your phone, you should upload your photos and videos to the cloud. Cloud storage is one of the most flexible and reliable solutions for storing data. It can provide many advantages over other forms of storage.
Apple offers the iCloud Photos service, which works very well. However, once you exceed 5 GB, you will need to pay for additional storage.

Other services that offer paid cloud storage include Google Photos and Dropbox. If you don't want to pay or store anything in the cloud, you should make sure you regularly back up your photos and videos to a computer or storage drive.
