Sony saw double the revenue from game sales for its PS4 consoles, which reached 91 million, during the pandemic.

It's no surprise that people have been spending a lot of money on video games during the Covid-19. In its latest financial earnings, Sony reported that 91 million PS4 games were sold during the three-month period ending June 30, 2020. That's an 83% increase on the 49.8 million sales it reported for the same quarter last year.
The company's exclusive games also had impressive sales, with 18.5 million copies shipped, boosted by Naughty Dog 's highly anticipated sequel to The Last of Us . In the same period last year, sales were 11.7 million.
With many PS4 owners stuck indoors, it's no surprise that 74% of games were purchased online last quarter. Additionally, the PS Plus has now reached 44.9 million members, up from 41.5 million.
While the software is growing, the hardware continues to decline. The company sold 1.9 million PS4 consoles during the three-month period, which may have been an increase from the previous quarter (1.4 million) but was down 41% from the same period last year (3.2 million). The old system will soon be replaced by the PS5, which is scheduled to be released during the holiday season.

"While factors such as work-from-home restrictions and international travel restrictions remain, necessary measures are being taken and preparations are underway for the console's launch scheduled for the 2020 holiday season," Sony told investors in its earnings report today.
However, gaming was a strong point for Sony this quarter. The division posted sales of about $5.7 billion during the quarter, up from about $4.3 billion it reported in the same period last year.
Almost every other part of the business run by PS4 maker Sony, including TVs, smartphones, cameras and movies, saw revenue fall year-on-year.
