Instagram is bringing ads to IGTV, with 55% of revenue going to creators. The social media platform made the announcement via a blog post, and said it will introduce ads soon.
IGTV ads (Instagram TV Ads)will appear when someone taps to watch a video on IGTV. The ads will be no longer than 15 seconds, and there will be an option to skip the ad. The company will experiment with the new format for a year, testing different ads and different ways to display them.
By next week, Instagram will be rolling out IGTV ads to a limited number of accounts and only 200 business partners. The service will soon be widely available, depending on the results.
The blog post also mentions that we will see a new feature live video. Instagram will allow fans of creators to “donate” via the “Badge” for live videos.
Instagram Live Badges will work just like YouTube Badges. They will offer creators the opportunity to increase their income through “donations” from their fans. Users who purchase the badges will be easily identifiable in comments and will have access to additional features.
However, the rollout of this feature is very limited for now, which may disappoint some users. All they can do is hope that the company will make it available globally soon.
In conjunction with the above, Instagram will also create a “Brand Collabs Manager”, to support commercial accounts. The Brand Collabs Manager will help creators promote their brand and find the best partners.
There will also be the option for Live Shopping, which will allow influencers and brands to tag products to promote them in live videos.
Due to COVID-19 and lockdown, creators will find Instagram's new initiatives very helpful, as they rely heavily on live video and IGTV. For a long time, they have not been able to make high-budget, outdoor videos like they used to. Earning revenue through IGTV ads and badges will be a very significant boost.
