Bing Predicts, Microsoft's prediction app, has disappointed its audience for the first time by failing to predict Donald Trump's victory in the 2016 election. Bing has published successful results for events, sports games or movie awards many times in the past, but in the case of the election it gave Donald Trump a 10% chance of winning the presidency.
The 10% was a huge deviation from the final result and everyone is wondering why Microsoft fell so far behind. The company said that Bing Predicts is based on online trends that change frequently, especially in the case of elections, which are a controversial and unpredictable event. More specifically, the application was based on online searches, social media posts and third-party reports. The indications changed every minute, so a clear result could not be obtained.
Many were disappointed by the incorrect results of Bing Predicts and considered such a large deviation from the final outcome of the elections unjustified. Microsoft was not the only one to fall into the trap of misleading the indications as in America most election polls predicted Hillary Clinton as the new president of the United States of America.
The failure of the predictions is likely due to other factors. Specifically, Donald Trump supporters may not have expressed their opinion publicly or may have misled the prediction machines with their publications.
The only thing that is certain is that once again the inaccuracy of prediction machines has been proven, with Bing Predicts being no exception.
