Skype for Linux? Lately we have noticed that Microsoft's perception of Linux and the open source world in general has completely changed. Linux is developing at a rapid pace, and so Redmond had no choice but to adapt and consider ways to get closer to an ever-growing community.
After announcing several Linux applications for Windows that no one would have thought possible 10 years ago (see Bash for Windows 10), Microsoft seems to be preparing more surprises for Linux users. This time, the company is specifically targeting Skype users.
In a teaser posted today on the app's community forum, Microsoft announces "exciting news for Linux users," but without providing further details.
However, if one considers that the teaser comes from Microsoft's Skype channel, it is not difficult to guess that in all likelihood, Redmond is preparing to unveil some new Skype application for Linux.
It should be mentioned that Skype for Linux has remained at version (skype-4.3.0.3) for years, something that is often criticized, not only because of the outdated UI, but mainly due to the fact that it lacks many features that are already present in the Windows client.
Let's see what happens as the news will probably be released next week..
