PRESS RELEASE – A 32-year-old man was arrested by the Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) in an area of Attica for child pornography via the internet.
A case of child pornography was investigated by the Hellenic Police's Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE), within the framework of targeted actions and investigations to combat child pornography on the internet, and a 32-year-old Greek national was arrested in an area of Attica.
Specifically, the investigation of the case began after an online check on a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) file sharing network, for possession and distribution of child pornography, during which the electronic traces of individuals who possessed and shared a specific child pornography file were recorded. The check resulted in an electronic trace belonging to a user within the Greek Territory.
The Cybercrime Prosecution Directorate (DIE) conducted a thorough digital investigation and analysis of the data and elements of the case, while an Order and Resolution were issued by the competent Prosecution Authority to lift the confidentiality of communications.
As part of the methodical police and digital investigation, the owner of the disputed internet connection was identified and yesterday (14-07-2015) morning, a team of police officers conducted a search, in the presence of a Judicial Officer, at his home, in an area of Attica.
The on-site digital search of the 32-year-old's digital media revealed the possession of hundreds of files containing child pornography, which depicted minors under the age of five in sexual acts with adults, for which the 32-year-old was arrested while on the verge of being arrested.
As part of the investigation, one (1) internal computer hard drive was found and seized, which will be sent to the Criminal Investigations Directorate for laboratory tests.
The perpetrator, along with the case file filed against him, will be sent to the Athens Criminal Court Prosecutor.
