The Tor Project has announced the latest version of its anonymous web browsing tool, Tor Browser Bundle 3.6.2, which includes the latest security and performance features, as well as new support for Firefox.
As usual, the developers have broken the changes into categories, starting with the general features and fixes that affect users from all platforms (Mac, Windows, Linux).
The good news for users who prefer to surf the web without being tracked is that Tor is based on Firefox 24.6.0esr (extended support) and includes an OpenSSL patch (1.0.1h), NoScript version 2.6.8.28, and Tor update (Tor 0.2.4.22).
This release fixes many known bugs. For example, the browser includes documentation for Pluggable Transports, prevents ClipBoardCache from being written to disk, and makes the Host CONNECT header the same as the Request-URI. It includes updates for TLS 1.1 and 1.2, and doesn't send any further startup information to Mozilla, just keeps everything completely anonymous.
To support Pluggable Transports, Tor includes FTEProxy 0.2.15 and obfsproxy 0.2.9. There is also an update to log inappropriate messages.
Its creators tell those unfamiliar with the Tor browser that it is a free, open network program that “helps defend against traffic analysis, a form of network surveillance that threatens personal freedom and privacy, confidential business activities and relationships, and state security.”.
