Apple still has three unreleased iOS 27 features in the works

Apple wrapped up its keynote at WWDC 2026 this week, showing off all the major new features coming to iOS 27 for next year. Siri artificial intelligence and improved stability were the main focus. However, there are a few new features that are rumored to be still in development and we shouldn’t see them until September, according to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman.

One of the most interesting new features expected with iOS 27 is the ability for Siri to support other chatbots, such as ChatGPT, Gemini, and Claude. This development is part of Apple's strategy to enhance Siri's functionality and make it more flexible and useful for users. Apple has already worked with OpenAI since 2024 to initially integrate ChatGPT into Siri, but the new feature will allow apps to integrate directly with Siri via an Extensions API.

This new integration model will allow third parties to integrate their features into Siri without the need for special agreements with Apple. The main difference is that this will be a direct third-party integration, which likely won’t have the same privacy guarantees as the original ChatGPT deal, as it’s not a partnership. Apple is working to move ChatGPT to this new integration model, though nothing has materialized yet.

The company has already held discussions with OpenAI, Anthropic, and Google about supporting this new system, including details about a license they will need to apply for and integrate into their apps.

Gurman speculates that there are four main reasons why this feature hasn't arrived yet. First, Apple wants to ensure that the integration will be secure and won't compromise user privacy. Second, the company wants to ensure that the apps that will be integrated will meet certain quality and security standards. Third, Apple is likely considering the implications of this change on the market and competition. Finally, the company may be waiting to see how chatbot technology evolves before moving forward with full integration.

In addition to the Siri improvements, iOS 27 was supposed to include a fully customizable camera app, where users could move the controls to a place they preferred. This feature didn't make it into the initial developer beta, though other features, like Siri in the Camera, did. The fully customizable camera app is expected to debut in September alongside the iPhone 18 Pro, giving users more flexibility and control over their photography capabilities.

Apple is also reportedly developing a simpler version of the popular watch face that's exclusive to the Apple Watch Ultra. This version will feature the large watch face of the Modular Ultra, but will lack the second row of complications. This wasn't revealed at WWDC, but will likely be unveiled in September alongside the new Apple Watch releases.

As September approaches, we’ll likely hear more about how these extensions will work. In theory, any notable AI company could implement them — and users would be able to leverage their features with Siri. Apple appears to be preparing for a new era of third-party integration and collaboration, offering its users a richer and more diverse user experience.
