TikTok is expanding its e-commerce platform, TikTok Shop, to users in France, Germany and Italy. TikTok Shop is already available in the UK, but the Chinese app is looking to expand further into Europe.
Of course, TikTok Shop is also available in the United States and even saw strong sales during Christmas. However, the fate of TikTok in the US (and therefore the Shop) remains uncertain.

According to Reuters, the expansion comes as TikTok looks to bring more European-based sellers into its Shop. Until now, many of the sellers on the platform sell products directly from China.
“In France, Germany and Italy, we are already working with merchants to bring their products to the platform and TikTok Shop will be available to our TikTok users from next Monday,” Jan Wilk, head of operations at TikTok Shop UK, told Reuters. The company executive stressed that TikTok, which is owned by China’s Bytedance, is looking to expand product offerings and prices on TikTok Shop. For example, Wilk noted that there is a luxury goods store (based in the UK) that sells used Birkin bags on TikTok Shop.

In France , a partnership with supermarket chain Carrefour is expected to boost TikTok Shop’s credibility and reach. In Germany , partnerships with companies like AboutYou and Cosnova suggest a strategic approach to attracting local businesses and boosting the diversity of products offered through the platform.
However, the expansion comes at a time of uncertainty for TikTok, as its Chinese parent company, ByteDance, could exit the US if it fails to find an American buyer. Despite these challenges, TikTok Shop’s focus on the European market suggests its intention to diversify its operations and establish a presence in global e-commerce.
