Tesla is adding several new jobs for design managers for new Supercharger stations in multiple regions , as the automaker prepares for a massive expansion of its Supercharger network before opening it up to other electric vehicles ( regardless of brand).

In the last quarter, the electric vehicle company had 26,900 Superchargers at 2,966 stations around the world, which represents an increase of 49% and 46% over the previous year.
However, if it wants to welcome more electric vehicles from other automakers, Tesla's Supercharger network will need to grow even faster.
Tesla's plans to open its Supercharger network to electric vehicles from other automakers have been rumored for some time. Elon Musk has said he wants to do this by the end of this year.
The company also said that instead of making deals with specific companies, it will allow EV owners to download the Tesla app to access charging stations.

In some markets, such as North America where Tesla uses its own plug, electric vehicle owners will need to use an adapter, which Tesla will provide at stations.

The auto industry could get significant funding to develop its charging network, as the federal government just approved $7.5 billion in EV infrastructure funding. One of the conditions for the subsidy is that charging networks must be open to more than one automaker.
This could explain Tesla's decision to now open its stations to other vehicles, despite having discussed it for years.
