What are Twitter's new measures against Cyberbullying?

Twitter , is taking increasingly aggressive action against hate speech and online abuse on the platform. It recently suspended the account of far-right nationalist Richard Spencerand Washington Summit Publishers, his publishing company.twitter-logo

Twitter also expanded the use of several existing security tools to make it easier for users to counter abuse and harassment, especially after the end of the elections when far-right groups made their presence more felt.

One of the new features of the platform is the ability to “mute words”. It aims to eliminate posts that display hateful behavior towards users of different races, ethnicities, genders, religions and people with disabilities. It is noteworthy that the company often receives messages from people who do not know how to report such behavior.

"Twitter's rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful behavior, and abuse of multiple accounts, and it will take action against those who attempt to violate these policies," a Twitter representative told TechNewsWorld.

Policing hate speech on a social network can be difficult as it tends to be considered censorship. It is argued that artificial intelligence (AI) will make the process of eliminating online bullying easier, but this is expected to be implemented in the distant future and we do not yet know whether it will lead to complete success.

Cyberbullying is an ongoing problem for Twitter, Facebook and other social networking platforms and proved to be one of the main factors in Twitter's failure to find a buyer last month.xl-2015-twitter-1
