Microsoft: new updates for data collection from Windows 7

Microsoft's goal of installing Windows 10 on 1 billion devices by 2017 is well-known. What was not known was the ways the company would use to achieve this. The logical and expected thing for the company is to turn to older versions of Windows first.

So because there are so many Windows 7 users who don't seem to be tempted by the offer of a free upgrade to Windows 10, the company decided to take a different route to force them.

So Microsoft initially released some updates urging users to upgrade their system.

It turns out, however, that the company recently re-released the same updates for Windows 7 users who had blocked the original ones, preventing the notifications from appearing on their computers.

InfoWorld's Woody Leonhard reports that a total of six patches have been re-released. These include not only updates encouraging upgrades to Windows 10, but also some updates that had been used to allow data collection from Windows 7.

Most of these updates are marked as “important” for Windows 7 PCs, and appear as recommended by Windows Update.

So according to the above, if you do not want to upgrade to Windows 10 or if you do not want telemetry services on your computer, you should avoid installing these updates.

Needless to say, Microsoft recommends everyone install them.
