Apple wants to integrate new features into its upcoming iOS 8 to help drivers find their cars if they forget where they parked them. The feature will work in the background and will not require any special action from the user.
We've all probably been unable to find where we parked our car. There are already several apps on iTunes that claim to provide owners with complete directions to find their car. Some require additional hardware to be installed in the car, while others function as a simple compass.
Apple with iOS 8 wants to go one step further and give users a much better solution that doesn't require logging into their account.
Embedded deep in iOS 8 , there is some code that points to a “ ParkingPin ” utility that will theoretically show a pin on the map marking your car’s parking location.
This feature will leverage the phone's hardware (microphone, sensors, the M7 chip) to detect when the owner parked his or her car and immediately store that location for future reference.
The trick is quite clever, and the feature will definitely help drivers who tend to get lost in vast parking lots.
Since it will be a feature of the Maps app, the ParkingPin feature will likely run in the background and not have a dedicated app/interface, like the Health app, for example.
