Researchers in the Czech Republic have built a 95-kilogram remote-controlled bicycle that can hover several meters above the Earth's surface for about five minutes. The experiment was carried out in Prague with a dummy in the driver's seat, according to the BBC.
The bike has propellers, which are powered by electricity via batteries. Two propellers are located at the rear and one at the front.
The aim of the research is that in the future the bicycle can be used by people with disabilities, in order to avoid zig-zagging through the city streets.
"The batteries only last for a few minutes of flight, but we hope that in the future they will be able to supply the bike with energy capable of allowing it to fly for longer," said Milan Duček, technical director of the company Duratec, which conducted the research on the "flying" bike.
For the experimental construction of the bicycle, Duratec collaborated with two other Czech companies, Evektor and Teknodat.
