With a trick, Apple keeps its site "worldly"

One of Apple's appeals to its thousands of fans is the company's attention to detail, which often makes its products a little more "well-made" than those of its competitors - for example, a hidden antenna here or a set of perfectly aligned jacks there.

A recent revelation shows that this meticulousness with which it treats its products even applies to the company, where a small piece of HTML code prevents a word from being interpreted in the wrong way.

This little trick was revealed in a tweet by developer Dan Leech earlier this week.

On the El Capitan page, Apple used an HTML “open” tag around the word “click,” adding some extra space between the letters “c” and “l”—perhaps to make sure it didn’t look like the word “dick.”.

It's a simple trick, and almost invisible to the untrained eye. But some users responded to Leech's tweet, showing what the same page would look like without the "open" label, and it became immediately obvious why Apple ultimately made the change.

And of course, there were some users who "played" with the thickening font even further, with even more obvious results. In some cases, users even changed the word itself to show how they perceived it!

It's nice to see Apple still paying attention to detail. But, as one commenter points out, it wouldn't hurt if they applied the same attention to the design of some of their newer products.
