The second patient, who had a Carmat artificial heart implanted, is in stable condition. According to the surgeon who performed the transplant, the patient is "doing well" and has outlived the first patient, who underwent the same operation but died earlier this year.
The second patient has been living with his artificial heart for 77 days, while the first, a 76-year-old man, died 74 days after the operation. The hospital management did not reveal the identity of the second patient, but according to the French press, it is a man over 70 years old who was permanently hospitalized. Due to the severe heart failure from which he suffered, it had been impossible to benefit from a donor heart.
