The University of Washington School of Medicine reported that their computer, which had stored patient records, has been infected with malware.
The malware managed to gain access to the system when an employee opened an attachment sent to him via email, which contained malware.
After an internal investigation, it was determined that the attack did not target patient data. However, the malware managed to access files containing data for 90,000 patients at the School of Medicine and Harborview Medical Center.
The data includes names, social security numbers, phone number, address, medical history number and some other details, according to their press release.
