Text messages, not only to their online friends but also to contacts in their phone book
The social network Facebook today announced an upgrade to its Messenger application, which will now allow its users to send text messages not only to their online friends but also to contacts in their phone book.
The renewed Facebook Messenger asks you to register – always optionally – your phone number.
If you choose to register, you will be sent a text message with a confirmation code. After registering and receiving the code, you will now be available to send and receive messages from your online friends, even when you are not logged into Facebook.
If you wish to add a contact from your phone book, but who is not your "friend" on the Facebook social network, select the People icon, click on the + symbol and type their phone number.
New environment
The updated version of Messenger offers a new browsing experience for the user.
Each of your contacts is now accompanied by a profile photo (to the left of each contact's name).
There's also a blue indicator that lets you know which of your online friends are using the app and which are offline. The Messenger update is available for both iOS and Android.
